As the Meisner Technique has grown in popularity, it’s teaching has been diminished, resulting in actors who proclaim “Meisner trained” on their resume, but show vastly different acting abilities. For talent agents and casting directors, seeing “Meisner Trained” on a resume doesn’t hold the value it once did.
A number of acting schools offer showcases to industry professionals at the end of their training programs. While this is a great opportunity for actors to be seen, expecting industry professionals to trust those actors’ abilities on a singular showcase is no longer valid. The industry has changed and while a ‘showcase’ may open a door, it doesn’t adequality demonstrate an actor’s readiness for the Business of acting. Nor do many of these schools offer the support and guidance in the business itself.
SMC Talent Management promotes only the best, properly trained, business savvy Meisner actors to industry professionals.
We only manage actors who have completed the full 2 year Meisner training program from a reputable school, such as The Sanford Meisner Center or The Neighborhood Playhouse. Actors who’ve only done partial Meisner training, or trained in “Meisner Based” acting are not eligible for representation. We confirm that these actors have all the necessary business infrastructure and acumen established to be considered by top tier talent agencies, casting offices and producers.
